Can't update to latest Safari

I have a Mac on Mavericks (I need to use OSX 10.9 for compatibility reasons), and I'm up to date with the latest OS version. I'm running 10.9.5 and the app store app shows there are no updates I need to install.

However, for some reason, my Safari is an old version: 7.0.3. I have another mac running Mavericks and it's running Safari 9, so I'm quite certain I should have a newer version of Safari. It's like my Safari is stuck on version 7 and won't update, even though I have the latest OS updates. Any ideas on how to force Safari to update to the latest version?

Mac Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)

Try re-indexing Spotlight.

Spotlight – Re-index

The App Store uses it to know why is installed on the computer.

I gave that a try, but it didn't help. I still have Safari 7.

I'm not having trouble with the App Store app showing updates. For example, it recently showed me the 2016-004 security update. It's just that Safari never gets updated. Other apps seem to be updated correctly.

Try resetting the App Store and Clearing Cookies.

Apparently Apple has broken Mavericks updates and there is currently no way to update Safari. There was an update available a couple of weeks ago but it has been removed, apparently by mistake. I have a ticket in on this.

Hi Eric, I am having the same issue and would like to try your suggestion. However, when I follow the steps on your link I am unsure what folder they are referring to in step 3.

"3. Drag the folder or disk that you want to index again to the list of locations that Spotlight is prevented from searching. Click OK to confirm."

If you could let me know I would really appreciate it. Thanks so much.

Safari can't be updated in Mavericks right now. The problem isn't with the App Store app. The update is simply missing from Apple's system. Apparently is was mistakenly removed on Sept 20. Apple is working on fixing this.

Apple fixed Safari updating for Mavericks users today. If you're not running Safari 9.1.3, you should now see an update available for that version in the App Store app. I'm pleasantly surprised I could report a problem to support and it was fixed 2 days later.
